This presentation provides general information about the background and nature of SNOMED CT.

A short history of experience in recording clinical ideas in computer systems over the past forty years. This sets the context for the requirements associated with the adoption and development of SNOMED CT.

Surveillance modernization efforts emphasize the potential use of electronic health record (EHR) data to inform public health surveillance and prevention. However, EHR data streams vary widely in their completeness, accuracy, and representativeness. This publication describes a validation process developed by the Multi-State EHR-Based Network for Disease Surveillance (MENDS) pilot project to identify and resolve data quality issues that could affect chronic disease prevalence estimates.

This presentation provides an overview of the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA) which has the overall goal to establish a floor of universal interoperability across the country. The Common Agreement will establish the infrastructure model and the governing approach for users in different networks to securely share basic clinical information with each other—all under commonly agreed-to expectations and rules.
