This basic-level eLearning course provides an overview of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) – also known as a Laboratory Information System – and other information systems that play a key role in laboratory informatics. Included in the course are explorations of LIMS functionality, the role of the LIMS in interoperability, various regulations and standards regarding information systems and laboratory data, and the steps in implementing a LIMS.

This on-demand course provides an in-depth review of HL7 v2.5.1 unsolicited vaccination record update (aka VXU) messages and how they are used to exchange immunization information between immunization information systems (IIS) and other health information systems.

This guide provides an interactive learning opportunity to address the challenges faced by data modernization teams in implementing data governance. While originally developed for data modernization teams, the principles and tools in this guide can be applied more broadly to data governance projects throughout public health.

The goal of this course is to help orient new informaticians to the HL7 V2 message structure and take a deep dive into message content.
