This presentation provides general information about the background and nature of SNOMED CT.

A short history of experience in recording clinical ideas in computer systems over the past forty years. This sets the context for the requirements associated with the adoption and development of SNOMED CT.

This document is a companion to Section 1D of the Building Blocks Guide. It describes the steps required for HL7 message definition and provides additional information on the tools and topics discussed in the Guide, including the Implementation Workbook and the Message Validation Template.

The interoperability of data, and delivery of a consistent level of data quality, are critical factors in the National Digital Health Strategy – both for quality of immediate care, and for the development of longer-term health strategies. This is the first of a three-part webinar series looking at interoperability and clinical terminologies, with a particular focus on the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR), a key standard for interoperable data in Australia.
